Answer communities that can help you with tech-related questions

I wrote an article a long time back about how I find answers to my questions on the Internet (here’s an example).  It has dawned on me that much of my search strategy has changed since then.  Today I want to discuss one major place I check for answers to my tech-related questions.  Right now the two major places I find answers are in the search engines (I mostly use Google now) and answers communities.  This article will be dedicated to talking about answer communities.

An answer community is a place where people can post questions, post answers to questions or search the database of questions already answered.  Basically it is a community where you can find answers.  There are a few out there that I depend on.

MakeUseOf’s Answers

Until recently I was using MakeUseOf their main site) for many of my technology related questions by searching for articles written on the subject at hand.  The hugr database of helpful, articulate articles makes it a wonderful place to find answers to many of my tech-related questions.  Recently they started their own answers community allowing readers to post tech questions.  Very cool!  Stop on by and look for your answers!

Yahoo Answers

Yahoo answers is a formidable answers community simply because it has been around for so long and the community of users is still strong.  I have long been turning my answer-seeking efforts at least partially towards Yahoo Answers.  Realize that since there are so many people there, you will get some garbage such as stupid answers but you’ll also get the serious answers.

Super User

This community is a brand new one for me but I like what I see so far.  They have a tagging system for organizing the questions.  They are totally focused on tech-related issues so you won’t get much veering from that topic.  This also means that many of the questions and answers are quite technical and may be over the normal user’s head.  You will find normal, every day stuff there too so don’t get intimidated if you are not a Eugene Meltzner (Adventures in Odyssey character).

These three, I am sure, are only a small portion of the answer communities out there on the ‘Net.  What do you use to find tech-related answers on the Internet?  Please share!
